A DBS (Disclosure and barring service) previously known as a CRB (Criminal record bureau) is a government body who carry out criminal record checks. There are different level of checks, depending on your work, eligibility will depend on which check you are able to apply for.

Our DBS Check application is quick and easy, but here is an overview of the process and some frequently asked questions.
For organisations here are the quick steps –
1 Register your organisation with Active background checks, then you will be able to create your own logins (Admin and remote logins for your applicants)
2 The application will need to be completed by your organisation with the applicant present or the applicant can complete the form themselves with their remote logins.
3 Your organisation can validate the applicants ID documents and then submit the application to active background checks.
4 We quality check and process the application and send it to the DBS.
5 DBS completes their in-house process and notifies us upon completion.
6 An indicative notice will be sent via our team. The paper certificate will be posted to the applicant’s home address.

How long will it take to be registered?
Active Background Checks aims for a 24hr turn around.
How long can a DBS take?
The DBS have a service level agreement for an enhanced level application of 60 days, a standard level application of 28 days and a basic level can take up to 14 days.
Is there a minimal age limit to apply for a DBS check?
The applicant must be aged 16 years old or older.
Does a DBS check expire?
A DBS check doesn’t officially expire; however, the policies and procedures of the company may require an applicant to re-apply upon request, for example every 3years.
